Posted on September 1, 2015

Carli Lloyd, the captain of the U.S. women's national soccer team, will publish her memoir in Fall 2016 with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH). Lloyd scored a hat trick in the World Cup final to help the U.S. defeat Japan. It was the fastest hat trick in the history of the World Cup.

The North American rights to the memoir were purchased at auction by Susan Canavan, Senior Executive Editor at HMH. There will also be a version of the memoir for young readers.

In her memoir, Lloyd will reflect on her soccer career. She will talk about almost leaving the game in 2003. She will also talk about finding a trainer she trusted who helped her improve by focuses on fitness, mental toughness, and character.

Lloyd says in the announcement, "Winning the World Cup with my teammates was one of the most thrilling moments I could imagine. Getting there was a long journey, sometimes rewarding, sometimes challenging, but worth every moment of hard work and sacrifice. I'm super excited to have the opportunity to work with Susan and HMH to tell my story. I think it will be a book that will inspire and motivate players, fans, coaches and anyone who wants to achieve their dreams."
