X-Files Young Adult Novels Will Follow Mulder and Scully as Teenagers
Posted on April 12, 2016
A new young adult book series, The X-Files Origins, will follow the adventures of young detectives Dana Scully and Fox Mulder. Scully is 15 in the novels and Mulder is 17.
EW reports that the novels will be published by the Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group. The first novel, The X-Files: Agent of Chaos, will be written by Kami Garcia, the co-author of Beautiful Creatures and author of the Legion series. The second novel, Devil's Advocate, will be written by Bram Stoker winner Jonathan Maberry. Both novels will arrive in bookstores in January 2017.
Publisher Erin Stein says in a statement, "When I watched the pilot episode back in 1993, I became immediately obsessed with The X-Files. As a die-hard fan of the show, the opportunity to work with incredible authors on original stories about these characters is a dream come true for me. Why did Mulder become a believer? Why did Scully become a skeptic? We get to tell those stories."
The book news follows on the heels of the return of The X-Files to television this year for a short season that ended on a cliffhanger. Hopefully, it will get picked up for more episodes. A series about the FBI agents as young detectives would also be interesting as would as series starring the two new agents (played by Lauren Ambrose and Robbie Amell) featured in this year's reboot.
Amazon already has a placeholder for Agent of Chaos here - although it will be several months before the novel is available. A cover image has not yet been released.
