2002 Independent Ebook Awards Shortlist Announced
Posted on June 27, 2002
The Digital Literature Institute has announced the short list for the 2002 Independent Ebook Awards. The 2002 Independent Ebook Awards ceremony will be held November 2nd at the Radisson Hotel in Santa Barbara, California during the Digital Literature Festival. The Judges will award winner and two finalists per category at a special ceremony on November 2, 2002 as part of the Digital Literature Festival. Awards and cash prizes of $1,000 are offered for Best of Fiction, Best of Non-Fiction, and Best Use of the Medium.
Works that were electronically published between December 1, 2000 and November 30, 2001 were eligible for the 2002 Ebook Awards and the Favorite Ebook category for the Readers' Choice Awards. The work was not required for purchase by the public, but it must have been available for viewing (in whole or in part) on the Internet or as a downloadable format. While each work must have been originally contracted or published in electronic format, the work may also have been published as a print and/or audio book as secondary distribution options.
The Independent Ebook Awards were created in September of 2000 as the result of a collaboration between Sunny Ross, founder and executive director of the Digital Literature Institute and editor-in-chief of Mystic-Ink, and M. J. Rose, author of Lip Service. Ross and Rose created the Indie Awards as a way to recognize and reward outstanding work from authors with independent publishers and self-published authors in the new world of digital literature.
