2013 Man Booker Prize Longlist Announced

The longlist for the 2013 Man Booker Prize has been announced. The annual novel prize carries a 50,000 pound cash prize.
Authors from seven different countries are represented on the 2013 list. Robert MacFarlane, the chair of judges, said in the announcement, that the novels on the list, "range from the traditional to the experimental, from the first century AD to the present day, from 100 pages to 1,000 and from Shanghai to Hendon."

- We Need New Names by Noviolet Bulawayo (Chatto & Windus)
- The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton (Granta)
- Harvest by Jim Crace (Picador)
- The Marrying of Chani Kaufman by Eve Harris (Sandstone Press)
- The Kills by Richard House (Picador)
- The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri (Bloomsbury)
- Unexploded by Alison MacLeod ( Hamish Hamilton)
- TransAtlantic by Colum McCann (Bloomsbury)
- Almost English by Charlotte Mendelson (Mantle)
- A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki (Canongate)
- The Spinning Heart by Donal Ryan (Doubleday Ireland)
- The Testament of Mary by Colm Toibin (Viking)
