AAP Reports Ebook Sales are Booming

Ebooks continue to sell like crazy. A new report by the AAP (Association of American Publishers) reveals that ebook sales are increasing at a record pace. Books sold in digital format (excluding textbooks) in the first eight months of 2010 totaled $263 million; they sold under $90 million during the same time period the year before. Hardcover sales were down 25% and ebook sales were up 172% over those in August, 2009.

Overall book sales in August increased 3.4% from the year before to $1.6 billion. Adult Hardcover salwes were down 24.4% in August, although sales for the year are up by 5.2% so far.
