Adam Levine, Ryan Lewis, Jeff Bhasker and Macklemore Win BMI Songwriters of the Year

Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), a digital rights management company, honored songwriters last night at the 62nd Annual Pop Awards, held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Four songwriters were named BMI Pop Songwriter of the Year: Adam Levine, Ryan Lewis, Jeff Bhasker and Ben Haggerty (Macklemore).

Each of the winners wrote songs that were on BMI's most performed list. Adam Levine write Maroon 5's "Daylight," "Love Somebody" and "One More Night." Ryan Lewis and Ben Haggerty co-wrote Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Can't Hold Us," "Same Love" and "Thrift Shop." Jeff Bhasker co-wrote Fun's "Carry On" and "Some Nights," and "Just Give Me A Reason" performed by Pink.

Stevie Nicks received the BMI Icon Award "in recognition of her unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers." Jeremy Fraites and Wesley Schultz of the Lumineers won the BMI Pop Song of the Year for "Ho Hey" which they co-wrote. The evening featured a number of performances of Stevie Nicks' most famous songs. Lady Antebellum performed "Rhiannon," Adam Levine and Cheryl Crow performed "Leather and Lace" and Shakira performed "Landslide."

BMI represents the public performance rights of more than 600,000 songwriters. BMI negotiates music license agreements for song use and distributes the fees it receives as royalties to the writers and publishers when the songs are performed in public.
