Al Jazeera America to Open 12 U.S. Bureaus, Hires Joie Chen

Al Jazeera American plans to open 12 news bureaus around the United States. The Huffington Post reports that these cities include Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. Correspondents have also been announced for each city.

Ehab Al Shihabi, executive director of international operations for Al Jazeera and the senior executive in charge of developing the new channel, said in a statement, "It is important for Al Jazeera America to report on the news from where it's happening."

Al Jazaeera also announced that Emmy Award-winning journalist Joie Chen will host America Tonight, its daily prime time news and current affairs magazine program. Chen worked at both CNN and CNN International. She received an Emmy Award for her work as an anchor covering the bombing at Centennial Olympic Park during the 1996 Atlanta Games.
