Alpinist Magazine To Debut in Late Fall 2002

Posted on August 9, 2002

Alpinist Magazine announced that its premiere issue will debut at the end of November. Edited by former American Alpine Journal editor Christian Beckwith and published by Red Hat co-founder Marc Ewing and based in Jackson Hole, WY, Alpinist will be an independent quarterly publication that celebrates the climbing life around the world. Features of the magazine include first-person accounts of the hottest new routes, photography from the lenses of top climbing photographers, and reports about climbs from the four corners of the globe.

Ewing and Beckwith believe that their magazine will serve a large niche in the climbing community that has been ignored by traditional coverage. Editor-in-Chief Beckwith says "We are looking forward to showcasing the common passions of climbers around the world. The climbing community knows no political boundaries or generational gaps. We intend to emphasize that with the best writing and photography from the world's best climbers, writers and photographers."

Alpinist Magazine Issue 0 will appear as a free mini-issue available at the August Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. Alpinist will go on sale November 29, 2002 with a cover price of $12.95 and yearly subscription for $46.

Marc Ewing, Publisher of Alpinist, says: "We are really excited about putting out the mini-issue. We think that it will deliver a thrilling insight into the magazine and the climbing life we'll be capturing in our pages."
