Amazon Acquires Rights to Author Ed McBain's Books

Amazon.com announced today it has acquired the publication rights to 47 books by mystery author Ed McBain. Ed McBain was the pseudonym of Evan Hunter, who passed away in 2005. Hunter won the Grand Master Award for lifetime achievement from the Mystery Writers of America in 1986. He has sold over 100 million books worldwide.
Amazon acquired the publication rights to 35 titles in McBrain's 87th Precinct series and 12 titles in McBain's Matthew Hope series. Amazon's Thomas & Mercer imprint will republish the 87th Precinct novels in print, digital and audio formats in Fall 2011. It will republish the Matthew Hope books in Spring 2012.
Dina Hunter, widow of Evan Hunter, said in a statement, "Evan was always an innovator and I am thrilled that these books will be available again for his countless fans as well as a new generation of readers."
