Amazon and Houghton Mifflin Announce Distribution Deal

Posted on January 26, 2012

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Amazon.com have announced a licensing agreement between Amazon Publishing's East Coast Group and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt's New Harvest imprint. New Harvest will publish all of Amazon Publishing's adult titles in print and distribute them in North America outside of the Amazon.com platform. This distribution deal will enable Amazon.com to get its books in bricks-and-mortar bookstores. Amazon already has its own Kindle ebook platform to distribute the digital versions of its books.

Amazon Publishing's East Coast Group is headed by Larry Kirshbaum. It will publish narrative nonfiction, select literary fiction, business books and children's/young adult. Tim Ferriss, Penny Marshall, Deepak Chopra and James Franco are some of the major authors on the launch list for Amazon Publishing. Its first list will debut in Fall 2012.

Larry Kirshbaum says, "Our goal has been, and remains, to introduce authors to as many readers as possible. This new agreement with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt enables us to broaden our distribution and get our books into more readers' hands."
