Amazon Offers In-Store Pick Up at Borders Stores

Posted on November 29, 2002

Amazon.com and Borders.com announced they will be offering customers the option of picking up their online book, music and movie purchases at Borders Books and Music stores nationwide. As customers select items for purchase on Amazon.com or Borders.com, they will have the option to pick up their selection from a nearby Borders store. When Express In-Store Pick Up at Borders is selected, the site will display up to 10 Borders store locations nearest them where the items are in stock. Customers who choose the in-store pick up option will receive an email confirmation from Borders informing them that the item is being held in their name.

"It's a great time for book, music and movie lovers to further benefit from the alliance between Borders Group and Amazon.com. Our new In-Store Express Pick Up option will be especially popular with last minute holiday shoppers," said Tami Heim, president of Borders stores and Borders online. "This latest innovation is another way to ensure our customers experience the best service, selection and convenience possible."

Items ordered online for pick up at Borders stores will be sold at the national Borders store price, or local store price, if lower, with applicable state and local sales tax added, but no shipping charges included. Purchases are recorded as sales by Borders with Amazon.com receiving a commission. Returns on these items will be accepted at Borders stores.
