Amazon Reports Ebook Sales Oustrip Paperback Book Sales

Posted on February 3, 2011

For the first time, ebooks sales have surpassed paperback book sales at Amazon.com.

For every 100 paperback books it sells, Amazon.com sells 115 ebooks for its ereader, the Kindle. Amazon.com sells three ebooks for every hardcover book it sells. Those are significant milestones for the book publishing industry.

Amazon.com said its figures do not include free ebooks. If those were included the figures would be much higher for ebook sales. Amazon.com new offers more than 810,000 books for the Kindle. The company says that more than 670,000 of these books are $9.99 or less, including 74 New York Times Bestsellers.
