American Lawyer to Acquire National Law Publishing Company

Posted on October 24, 1997

American Lawyer Group (ALM), acquired earlier this year by U.S. Equity Partners, L.P., a private equity fund sponsored by Wasserstein Perella, today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to purchase National Law Publishing Company from Boston Ventures and James Finkelstein, the President and Chief Executive Officer of National Law Publishing.

The acquisition will combine the daily New York Law Journal -- and its affiliated publication, The National Law Journal weekly, with ALM's flagship legal monthly The American Lawyer, and ALM's network of regional legal and business newspapers. The ALM network includes newspapers in New Jersey, Washington D.C., California, Florida, Texas, Georgia and Connecticut.

The companies will also bring together 25 specialty legal newsletters; two legal technology magazines; a magazine dedicated to in-house counsel, Corporate Counsel Magazine; Counsel Connect and Law Journal EXTRA!, internet-based legal websites; and several internet-based news and case opinion services, including the Cal Law website. The companies together also publish more than 150 books covering both state and national legal topics and offer numerous well-known professional seminars and conferences.
