AOL Runs Nationwide Talent Search to Find AOL Insiders

Posted on October 17, 1997

AOL is running nationwide search to find AOL insiders. The company says an AOL Insider knows the AOL service inside and out - while at the same time is up on the offline news and trends that affect the lives of AOL members.

Their job is to take members through a virtual tour of the AOL service and provide commentary on hot topics in the news. An AOL Insider will greet AOL members, direct them to the areas of interest to them, and entertain and inform them at the same time. Their objective: "Make AOL a more relevant part of people's lives."

Select AOL Insider finalists will be featured on AOL's new front page, AOL Today, which will be part of AOL's recently unveiled New Channel Line-up, the first phase of AOL 4.O. Designed to make the service even more convenient and informative, this daily online guide is updated throughout the day with news, timely topics and features. AOL Insiders chosen to be columnists in AOL Today will rub virtual elbows with Joan Lunden, AOL Today's leading columnist.

AOL's Nationwide Talent Search kicked off today in conjunction with the premier of AOL's first self-produced book, The Insider's Guide to America Online, featuring online tips and anecdotes from AOL's first Insider "Meg."

The book and the talent search will be promoted in special displays in more than 400 Barnes & Noble stores throughout the country. The AOL Insider Talent Search is open to ALL Internet users, and was advertised in USA Today this morning.

All entries to the AOL Talent Search will be judged by the Writers Club @AOL. With their 8-year long AOL history ... they know writing!! Up to 25 finalists will have their entries posted online at keyword: Writers Club. Finalists may be awarded a writing contract with America Online.

Everyone who enters can become a part of the Writers Club database of writers ... a referral service for employers, periodicals, and organizations looking for writers nationwide.

Contest rules and information can be found on AOL at keyword: Talent Search. Internet users can enter the Talent Search on AOL.COM at www.aol.com.
