Apple to End Ping on September 30th

Posted on September 12, 2012

9to5mac reports that Apple plans to shutter Ping, its music social network, on September 30th. This will be a little over two years after Apple launch Ping on September 1, 2010. The Ping iTunes page currently reroutes users to the iTunes homepage.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said at the All Things D Conference in May that Apple didn't need to own a social network. He said, "Apple needs to be social, but it doesn't have to own a social network."

Cook is probably right that Apple doesn't need a social network. There have been many social networks launch over the years and many of them have failed.
