Ashanti Named Celebrity Ambassador for 2012 Read for the Record Campaign

Ashanti has been named the celebrity ambassador for Jumpstart's 2012 Read for the Record campaign. Ashanti will kick off the campaign with a Today show appearance on September 224, 2012. She will encourage people to read in the world's largest shared reading experience, which will take place on October 4, 2012.

On October 4, adults and children across the country will read Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad by David Soman and Jacky Davis. The mission of the campaign is to support of Jumpstart's mission to work toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.

Ashanti said in a statement, "I'm really excited to participate in Read for the Record and play a role in making a positive impact in the lives of children by giving them a 'jump start.'"

Ashanti also shares her love of reading and writing in this video from Jumpstart. She was in honors English in high school and says you "get so much more out of life when you're in tune with reading and learning."
