Atria Books to Publish Memoir by Samantha Geimer

Posted on October 9, 2012

Atria Books has announced plans to publish a memoir by Samantha Geimer. At age 13, Samantha was "the girl" as the center of the Roman Polanski sexual assault case in 1977. She is now 47 and will tell her story in The Girl: Emerging from the Shadow of Roman Polanski. The book will be published in Fall 2013.

Samantha Geimer said in a statement, "I am more than'Sex Victim Girl.' a tag the media pinned on me. My friends in junior high, scolded by their parents to stay away from that girl, also labeled me. I offer my story now without rage, but with purpose - to share a tale that in its detail will reclaim my identity. I have been dogged by tired thinking and easy tags nearly my entire life. I am not a stick figure. I know what it is like to be a woman and a victim in the realest possible way."

Geimer's attorney, Lawrence Silver, who was present from the beginning to protect her interests, will add his insights on the story.
