Atria Publishing Group has launched a new imprint called 37 Ink. Dawn Davis, vice president and publisher of Atria, announced the new imprint. The imprint will publish about ten titles per year and will include literary fiction, memoir, narrative nonfiction, history and pop culture books. The imprint gets its name from the 37th parallel north, which intersects California, Africa and Italy. Davis says these locations are the geographic touchstones of her life.
Davis said in a statement, "37 Ink will publish authors from a diverse array of cultures and viewpoints. Out intent and commitment is to discover new talent, and affirm reading as a source of both entertainment and knowledge while supporting our authors with Atria's world-class marketing and publicity."
The first book to be published by 37 Ink is the The Butler: A Witness To History, by journalist Wil Haygood. The book is a companion book to the upcoming Weinstein Company movie starring Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Robin Williams, and Vanessa Redgrave. It will be published on July 30. 37 Ink also recently acquired a book of humorous essays by filmmaker Issa Rae, creator of the webseries, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl.
