Avon Announces Debbie Macomber Short Romance Fiction Writing Contest

Posted on August 15, 2011

Avon is holding a short romance fiction writing contest to celebrate the launch of Debbie Macomber's novel, Family Affair, in paperback and ebook format in July, 2012. Avon says Debbie Macomber will pick the winner herself.

Liate Stehlik, Senior Vice President and Publisher of William Morrow/Avon Books, said in a statement, "This is a great opportunity for a new voice in romance to be discovered. It's the publishing equivalent of American Idol - entries will be reviewed by Avon editors, and the winner will be picked by Debbie Macomber herself. The possible exposure is amazing: the author is beloved by readers around the globe, and this short story could be read by millions of her fans."

The winner of the Family Affair contest will get a cash prize of $500. The winning story will also be published in the back matter of the paperback and ebook edition of Family Affair. Avon says the winner may also be offered an Avon Impulse publishing contract.

The story needs to be 20,000 to 25,000 words. Avon says stories should be written in a style that "complements Macomber's own gentle, uplifting work." The submission deadline is September 30, 2011 (5:00 p.m. ET).
