British children's author Dick King-Smith has died. He was 88. Smith was a farmer before he became a school teacher and an author. He was best known for writing the book The Sheep-Pig, which was adapted into the hit feature film Babe in 1995.

King-Smith did not start writing until he was in his 50s. His first book was The Fox Busters which was published in 1978. He sold more than 15 million books worldwide. Queen Elizabeth awarded him an OBE for services to children's literature. Our condolences to his family and friends.
