Femme Fatale Barbara Walters Admits to Affair With Senator in Memoir

Posted on May 2, 2008

So, it appears that Barbara Walters was quite the femme fatale back in the day. First, she had an affair with Senator Edward W. Brooke, who was the first black elected senator. Senator Brooke was married when they had their affair, and it would have ruined them both professionally if the relationship had been revealed at the time. Now, of course, public figures have all kinds of affairs and no one cares. Well, their spouses probably care. In any event, Barbara told Oprah about the affair which she reveals in her new book, Audition: a Memoir.

But it gets even better. On Fox and Friends this morning, Geraldo Rivera revealed that he was madlyin love with Barbara in the 1970s, but she spurned his advances. He then made some horrifying remark like "once you go black, you never go back." Nice.

"I'll tell you one affair she didn't have," he told the co-hosts. "I put all my best moves on Barbara. ...I had been in love. I had a huge crush on Barbara." But Geraldo says she "gave [him] the brush off," pinching his cheek and saying, "Oh, you're so cute."

Good grief. Who knew Babs was so naughty after hours? At least she showed the good sense not to have a fling with a youthful and impetuous Geraldo. Although, we have to wonder why she didn't...Too young? Too inexperienced? Too much moustache?
