Barnes & Noble Plans to Sell Sterling Publishing

Posted on January 4, 2012

The Wall Street Journal reports that Barnes & Noble will soon put its Sterling Publishing business up for sale. The book retailer wants to focus its energy and resources on the Nook as it battles for digital book marketshare with Amazon.com.

Barnes & Noble acquired Sterling Publishing in 1993 for $115 million. Sterling publishes nonfiction titles, including current events, diet, health, parenting, popular culture, reference, history, art and music. The New York Times says Sterling has a backlist of 4,500 titles.
