Barnes & Noble Takes Over Borders Website, Facebook and Twitter

Posted on October 14, 2011

Barnes & Noble has taken over the Borders.com domain as well Borders' Twitter and Facebook accounts. Borders grabbed the bulk of Borders' intellectual property during an auction in September and it was anticipated that they had purchased the Borders' name and website.

On Borders' Facebook page, Barnes & Noble writes, "As the world's largest bookstore, Barnes & Noble uniquely appreciates the importance bookstores play in local communities & we're very sorry that Borders has closed. We welcome you to join the B&N Facebook community to continue your love of reading with recommendations, deals & more. We'll be here for a few weeks to help you discover all that B&N offers but hope you'll join our B&N Facebook page to see for yourself."

The Borders.com website now redirects to a page on barnesandnoble.com that says, "Welcome Borders Customer: At Barnes & Noble we share your love of books...we hope you'll give us a chance to be your bookstore."

Barnes & Noble also acquired Borders' customer data and email lists in the September auction, but they agreed in court that they would give Borders' customers the opportunity to opt out of its email list.
