Mike Love, the Grammy-winning singer songwriter who co-founded the Beach Boys, has inked a memoir deal with Penguin imprint Blue Rider Press. The book will hit stores in the summer of 2016.
The working title for the book is Good Vibrations: My Life as a Beach Boy. Blue Rider acquired the world print, ebook and audio rights to the book which will be co-written by James S. Hirsch, who has written biographies s of Willie Mays and Rubin "Hurricane" Carter. The book will tell Love's life story, beginning with his childhood. Love and his cousins, Dennis, Carl and Brian Wilson grew up together and founded the Beach Boys with their friend Al Jardine.
Love will tell the story behind legend of one of the most popular groups in American music. The group dominated the airwaves in the 1960s, with songs of the California beach lifestyle. The group fell apart later, due to death and drug abuse, but through it all Love never gave up on the Beach Boys. The book will span 50 years, which is a lot of ground to cover.
Love himself has recorded and toured for five decades and has performed 5600 concerts worldwide as a Beach Boy. In the book he will discuss his infamous falling out with Brian Wilson and their tumultuous relationship over the years.
In a statement Love said of the project, "I've had an incredible life with a lot of triumphs, my share of heartbreak and some pretty amazing experiences. There are a lot of things I haven't shared before, and I’m looking forward to opening up about my life and my work in this book." Love says the book will be a story about music, family and a country in transition.
