Billboard and Twitter Partner for Real-Time Music Charts
Posted on May 27, 2014
Billboard and Twitter have partnered for the Billboard Twitter Real-Time Charts. The first chart launched by Billboard is the Trending 140, which Billboard describes as an "up to the minute ranking of songs shared in the U.S., measured by acceleration over the past hour." It is also described as the fastest moving songs on Twitter over the past hour. Kanye West's "God Level" is leading the Trending 140 as of this writing.
Billboard says the following data is used to create the chart:
- links to the song on music listening platforms, such as Spotify, Vevo and iTunes
- the use of track sharing notifications, such as hashtags and the song/artist name
- the use of various terms associated with the song and song playing, such as "music," "song," "track," "listen."
Billboard has also launched an Emerging Artists chart. A FAQ about the charts can be found here.
