Blog Today, Fired Tomorrow

Posted on February 8, 2005

If you blog about your employer or blog about something your employer may not approve of then you could be putting your job on the line. An article from the Christian Science Monitor discusses several people who have lost their jobs as a result of their blogs including journalists, a flight attendant and a congressional aide.

The Monitor says, "While awareness of blogs has grown, their existence is still news to many employers. A lack of written policies - along with the nation's murky laws about employee rights and privacy - could make blog-related job termination a bit dicey."

The article also cites a survey from the Society for Human Resource Management that found 3% of employers surveyed had disciplined employees about their blogging.
