Bloggers are Up Late Covering Presidential Debates

Posted on October 1, 2004

The first of the three scheduled presidential debates got off to a rousing start last night in Coral Gables, Florida. But the candidates weren't the only ones facing a long night. Journalists and bloggers all around the world stayed up late to file a story the minute the debates ended.

In fact, many pundits commented in real time, during the debates: Paul Begala for the Democrats and Robert Novak for the Republicans blogged for CNN, for example. Given the importance that post-debate spin can play in an election, it was a caffeine-loaded evening.

This is the time period we are in. If you are pursuing a career as a blogger or journalist you will be expected to be writing about the news as it is happening. You will have to write up reviews and coverage of big events the night it happens and not the next morning.
