Posted on June 24, 2014

The final draft of the lyrics of Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" sold at auction today for a record $2,045,000. Sotheby's auctioned off a one of a kind original working manuscript that Bob Dylan wrote before he recorded the classic song in 1965.

The manuscript contained four long stanzas and the chorus which is repeated throughout the song. The manuscript also shows Dylan's edits, corrections and margin notes about upcoming personal appointments, reminders and thoughts about other songs. The manuscript was most likely written on June 15 and June 16, 1965. The manuscript is written on hotel stationery and was expected to go for between $1 million and $2 million. The buyer preferred to remain anonymous.

Update: The handwritten lyrics sold for $2 million.
