Boing Boing's Growing Competition

Posted on April 26, 2005

Boing Boing, which has the tagline, "A Directory of Wonderful Things," tracks the wacky, unusual and interesting. In coverage of interesting links Boing Boing has rising competition from the MSM as well as other blogs in the blogosphere.

MSNBC.com has a daily Clicked column which covers dozens of interesting new links each business day. Slate covers a more serious side of the blogosphere with its Today's Blog column.

In addition there are thousands of blogs that look at new and interesting things found on the Web. And there are estimated to be about 10,000 new blogs each day.

So far Boing Boing's Alexa ranking has fallen only slightly (graph on right). And Boing Boing's Technorati 100 ranking of #1 has held thanks to lots of links from new blogs. However, last week's BusinessWeek cover story totally neglected to mention them.

Why have a cover story about blogs and leave out the top blog? More on BusinessWeek's blogging cover story can be found here.
