Borders Adds Alibris Searches to Stores
Posted on October 30, 2002
Borders Group, Inc. has announced an agreement with Alibris to offer Alibris' used book information and distribution in its physical stores. As part of the agreement, Borders Books and Music customers will now have access to millions of hard-to-find books via Title Sleuth, the self-service computer stations located in Borders stores.
This new initiative enhances Title Sleuth's self-service capability; the customer can search for out-of-print, used and collectible titles and order directly from the computer screen at their local Borders store or they can have a bookseller order it for them at the information desk. When the book arrives, the customer will receive an email or a phone call notifying them the book is ready to be purchased and picked up.
"Working with Alibris, the world's leading supplier of used and hard-to-find books, allows us to offer our customers the greatest possible selection available," said Tami Heim, president of Borders Stores and Borders Online. "We chose Alibris because they have the strongest dealer network, unique technology capabilities and world-class operations."
Alibris offers used, new, and hard-to-find books from independent booksellers, publishers, and distributors around the world. Founded in 1998, Alibris is headquartered in Emeryville, CA, with a distribution center in Sparks, NV.
