Borders Announces Original Voices Awards Nominees

Posted on March 28, 2002

Nominees for the fifth annual Original Voices Awards were announced by Borders Books and Music. The awards, traditionally given to authors of fiction and non-fiction genres, were expanded to include children's picture books and young adult books in 2002. The Original Voices program in Borders stores highlights innovative and ambitious books from new and emerging talents, as well as outstanding works from established authors, year-round. Each of the nominated books will be featured in the April issue of Inside Borders, and select nominees will make appearances in Borders stores throughout the next year.

"Borders has been excited about the Original Voices program since its inception, and I'm very pleased that we've added both a children's and a young adult category to this year's awards list," said Mike Spinozzi, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Borders Group, Inc. "There is an especially solid group of authors this year and it will be difficult to choose the winners."

Nominees for the awards are chosen by both corporate and store employees. A select group of Borders' buyers and marketing staff will read each nominated book and choose the winners, to be announced on April 25.
