Bruce Springsteen, From Songwriter to Op-Ed Writer

Posted on August 5, 2004

Now there's something you don't see everyday: legendary singer and songwriter Bruce Springsteen penned an editorial for the New York Times today. Entitled "Chords for Change," the article explains Springsteen's new venture: he and other marquee names will tour in support of John Kerry's campaign.

Springsteen says, "I don't think John Kerry and John Edwards have all the answers. I do believe they are sincerely interested in asking the right questions and working their way toward honest solutions. They understand that we need an administration that places a priority on fairness, curiosity, openness, humility, concern for all America's citizens, courage and faith."

After 25 years of refusing to take a public position in politics, his entry into the fray is interesting. Springsteen also told the Los Angeles Times that he will not bash President Bush and has respect for the office of the president, but is resolute that a change must be made in Washington. There's been no word yet whether a rival group of musicians will also tour to support President Bush.
