Candice Bergen to Publish Her Second Memoir in 2012

Posted on October 7, 2010

Candice Bergen's second memoir will be published in 2012. Canidce Bergen has been under contract for the second memoir for twenty-three years. Simon & Schuster Executive Vice President and Publisher Jonathan Karp made the announcement.

The project was originally to be a book about Beverly Hills, and was signed up in 1987 after the success of Bergen's memoir Knock Wood, published in 1984 under the now-extinct Linden Books imprint. At that time, Bergen had not yet been given the role of Murphy Brown. After the success of Murphy Brown, for which she won five Emmys before she refused to accept any further nominations, she realized she didn't have time to write the book, and offered to return the advance to S&S. However, a succession of editors and publishers - first Michael Korda, then David Rosenthal and finally Jonathan Karp - kept pushing her to write a sequel to Knock Wood.

After finishing her work on Boston Legal, Bergen realized she had some time again and the old contract was revived with her literary agent, Ed Victor at Ed Victor Ltd.

Simon & Schuster says the new book will cover the death of Bergen's husband, Louis Malle. It will also tell the birth and story of her daughter, Chloe. The book will also discuss Bergen's television work she has done over the many years since the publication of Knock Wood.

Update 10-25-14:: Knock Wood was reprinted by Simon & Schuster in July, 2014. It can be found here on Amazon.com. A second memoir has not yet been published.
