CBS to Launch Public Eye Blog Tomorrow

Posted on September 11, 2005

Mainstream media continues to grab more of the blogosphere marketshare. On September 12th, CBS News will be launching the Public Eye blog. The blog, which has been mentioned many times in the blogosphere, is part of CBS' new web-centric news model. Media Week says the blog will be edited by reporter Vaughn Ververs.

NBC News anchor Brian Williams has been blogging regularly over the past few months, offering readers some insight into how news stories make it to air. While similarly promising viewers a look behind the scene, the Public Eye blog will focus on generating candid correspondence between the organization and viewers, according to CBS officials.

The announcement of the new blog, which launches on Sept. 12, comes during a time when CBS has made a concerted effort to beef up its video news content online, while the Network's 6:30 newscast endures an extended transitionary period following Dan Rather's retirement early this year.

CBS is not alone is moving journalists and anchors to the web. In an August blog post we mentioned some other anchor blogs already online.
