Center Street to Publish Florence Henderson's Memoir

Posted on February 22, 2011

Center Street, a division of Hachette Book Group, has signed Florence Henderson to write her memoir. The book is scheduled for publication in September 2011. The book will cover Florence Henderson's entertainment life, which includes Broadway, the Brady Bunch and Dancing with the Stars. Her best known role to millions of TV viewers is Carol Brady from the Brady Bunch series.

Florence also writes with candor about the challenges she has faced and overcome, including a Dickensian childhood in rural Indiana as the last born of ten children; struggles with religious faith; nightmarish post-partum depression, the collapse of her marriage and infidelity, and the death of her soul mate. She also reveals the valuable lessons both the triumphs and adversities have taught her about enjoying life to its fullest.

Florence says, "I have turned down offers for years to write my life's story but now I'm ready. I know many who will read my book will recognize a similar bundle of issues they confront in their own lives. Through it all, warts and all, I have persevered with a love of life and an excitement at each coming new experience. I write this book with the intention that through the laughter and the tears it will leave the reader with a renewed faith in the possibilities before them."

Update: The title of the memoir is Life Is Not a Stage: From Broadway Baby to a Lovely Lady and Beyond.
