Chow Time for CNET

Posted on August 17, 2006

CNET is behind a new food-related website called Chow.com. According to a New York Times article the website will offer "recipes, restaurant reviews, party hints, video tutorials and coverage of the marketing and culture of food." The Times article said CNET acquired Chow magazine from Jane Goldman earlier this year. Goldman has joined CNET to help run the new website.

For the required gustatory intelligence, the company this year bought the remains of a short-lived magazine called Chow, bringing along its founder, Jane Goldman. And since every self-respecting Web site needs a virtual community attached to it, CNET Networks also acquired Chowhound, an online message board for food enthusiasts, where culinary explorers seek and debate everything from the best stewed octopus in Astoria to the ultimate doughnut in Maspeth.
Chow.com is an attempt by CNET to expand beyond its current focus of computer and gadget how-to information and technology news.
