Clive Cussler and Pocket Books Team Up for New Series

Posted on March 12, 1998

Jack Romanos, president of Simon & Schuster Consumer Group, announced that Pocket Books and Simon & Schuster Audio will enter into a unique partnership with Clive Cussler to publish a new series of novels called The NUMA files.

The novels will incorporate many of the elements of Clive Cussler's bestselling Dirk Pitt adventures including the fictional world and characters of NUMA. The NUMA of Cussler's novels is derived from the National Underwater Marine Association (NUMA), Cussler's organization which has discovered more than 60 shipwrecks. For The NUMA Files, Cussler will actively participate in the creation and writing, and will engage other writers to work with on the books.

Since 1984 the Simon & Schuster Consumer Group has been publishing Clive Cussler's bestselling Dirk Pitt novels in all formats under the Simon & Schuster and Pocket Books imprints. Recent releases include Flood Tide, Shock Wave, Inca Gold, and a re-release of Raise the Titanic, as well as last year's work of non-fiction written with Craig Dirgo, The Sea Hunters. Cussler plans to continue writing Dirk Pitt novels in addition to the new series.

Clive Cussler commented, "I am delighted to have this new partnership with my old team. It adds an exciting dimension to my publishing career. I'm ready to dive in."

The first book in the series, as yet untitled, will be published in trade paperback by Pocket Books and is tentatively scheduled to be released in late 1998. It will be published simultaneously throughout the English language markets by Simon & Schuster U.K. and Simon & Schuster Australia. The audio version will also be published at the same time by Simon & Schuster Audio.
