CNET Unveils Computers.com Website

Posted on November 24, 1997

CNET is launching Computers.com, an extensive guide to buying computer hardware. Located at computers.com, the free service features a dynamic product directory, seamlessly integrated with original product reviews by CNET's team of experts.

Computers.com offers comprehensive information on the top, nationally-distributed computer products and is continually updated to include the most current models, features and prices. The directory is divided into 11 categories: Desktops, Notebooks, Servers, Modems, Printers, Monitors, Memory, Storage, Graphics/Video, Handhelds and Digital Cameras. Each category is further divided into sub-categories, for example, PCs, Macs, Web boxes and Net PCs under the Desktops category and LCD, Multimedia, 15 inch and 19 inch under Monitors.

Each sub-category contains a full list of products, and immediately provides information about price, whether CNET has reviewed the product, and when the product's entry was last updated. For more detailed information, users can click on a product name and review a product fact sheet, product specifications and the manufacturer's support policy. The Computers.com directory is designed to be user friendly and enables users to filter and view products according to price and several other criteria depending upon the category.
