Computerworld to Cease Publishing Print Edition

Posted on June 21, 2014

Computerworld has decided to end its print publication, which has been published since 1967. The technology magazine is published by International Data Group (IDG). The last issue will be published next week.

Computerworld's editor in chief Scot Finnie explains the decision in article published on June 19, 2014. He says, "It's sad to lose anything that has endured so long. But we are merely taking part in the natural evolution of the media industry, like so many great publications before us. Trains, after all, were once powered by coal and steam; Computerworld is moving from paper to electrons."

Many other magazines have already made the permanent jump from paper to electrons. Finnie says the computerworld.com website will be redesigned this summer. Finnie says the current website emphasizes news and the new site will feature more articles, opinions and special projects. A digital version of the print magazine will also continue. Finnie says, "The new digital edition will support touch and will be formatted for reading on tablet and desktop displays."

Engadget reports that the new Computerworld digital magazine will launch on August 1st.
