CondeNet, a creator and developer of upscale lifestyle brands online, has announced plans to launch Style.com, according to Sarah Chubb, director of CondeNet. Launching in early summer, Style.com will bring the content of the Conde Nast Publications, Inc. and Fairchild Publications, Inc. consumer fashion brands to the Web. Style.com will include CondeNet's popular fashion service, Vogue.com, as an integral part of the destination.
CondeNet purchased the Style.com domain name from Express, a division of Limited, Inc. of Columbus, Ohio. Express will retain control over the URL www.style.com until the official launch of CondeNet Style.com in early summer. In the interim, www.express.style.com will feature a link to Vogue.com from the home page.
Joan Feeney, who conceived and launched all of CondeNet's premier vertical brands, including Epicurious and Swoon, has been appointed director of Style.com. She is overseeing the launch and overall direction of the destination. Feeney was employee number one at CondeNet when it was founded in 1994 and has served as editorial director since 1996; she has more than 15 years of online and offline editorial experience.
``Joan was one of the first people to understand how content and utility could be united in consumer-oriented Internet brands,'' said Steve Newhouse, who is in charge of Internet activities for Advance Publications, Inc., parent company of CondeNet. ``We are deeply committed to success in the fashion category, and the appointment of someone with Joan's record for building uniquely compelling brands is a clear sign of our determination.''
