Cyndi Lauper to Publish Memoir With Atria Books

Posted on April 11, 2012

Cyndi Lauper will publisher her memoir, Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir, with Atria Books. The book, written with journalist Jancee Dunn, will arrive in bookstores this fall. The book will detail Cyndi's tumultuous years growing up in Queens, the ups and downs of a career that has spanned over three decades, her conflicted feelings on fame and her advocacy of equality for all that led to the creation of her foundation, the True Colors Fund.

At 17, Cyndi left her chaotic home life with no prospects and no money. She took odd jobs at the racetrack and as an IHop waitress. She found refuge in music and moved from band to band, playing small gigs, before finally landing a solo deal. She got her break in 1983 with her hit, "She's So Unusual," which earner her a Grammy for Best New Artist.

Cyndi says, "Sometimes I come off good, sometimes not so good. But I never wanted this book to be anything but my truth. It's not about what people think of me, but what I learned along the way. And if telling the story of what I went through can help someone else, then it's worth it."
