Damon Lindelof And Carlton Cuse Discuss Writing Lost

Posted on May 4, 2006

TV Guide's Ask Ausiello has an interesting interview with Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse who write the hit TV series Lost. In the interview, they discuss how they create the story arc and how the character of Ana-Lucia changed after they originally wrote her.

Ausiello: What about the intended romance with Ana Lucia and Jack? Did you change your mind about that?

Carlton: Yes. Sometimes we tell the show what to do and sometimes the show tells us what to do. And as we started to try to work on it, we never really got to a place where it made sense. Those characters were not in a place where we felt it was believable for them to have a romance. We had intentions of doing that, but as we started telling the stories and started writing the scripts, it just didn't feel right to us.

The second half of the interview wasn't posted until after last night's episode, so as to avoid some major spoilers. It's also an interesting read: Cuse and Lindelof finally explain their horror as writers when two of the actresses on the show both got DUIs on the same night and how that affected the script and story arc.
