Dark Horse Comics to Launch New Tomb Raider Series

Posted on October 26, 2015

Lara Croft will return in a new Tomb Raider comics series from Dark Horse Comics. The publisher says Croft will be a "whole new bag of trick" to the table. The series is being written by Mariko Tamaki. It will arrive in stores in February 2016.

The new series will follow Lara Croft through a new series of challenges and exotic locations. There will of course be unique and dangerous tombs for Croft to explore.

Tamaki says in a statement, "I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to write up some adventures for Lara Croft. I feel like I've just gotten this new, incredibly daring, strong, valiant friend, and now I get to think up super-cool stuff for her to do. And she has to take me with her. And we can go anywhere, and do anything? Right?! What could be better than that?"

Tomb Raider series editor Patrick Thorpe says, "Mariko Tamaki's writing is impactful and emotionally resonant. When I was researching her work for Tomb Raider, I read This One Summer cover to cover and said to myself, 'That was perfect.' Since becoming an editor, I don’t know that I've ever said that."

Tamaki's past works have included the graphic novel Skim, published in collaboration with her cousin, Jillian Tamaki, in 2008 by Groundwood Books. She published the novel (You) Set Me On Fire in 2012 will Razorbill. She and her cousin Jillian also collaborated on This One Summer, which was published in 2014 by Groundwood Books.

The Kindle and comXology version of the comic is now available for purchase from Amazon.com.
