Dean Koontz Writing Dog Memoir

Posted on October 16, 2008

Dean Koontz is writing a memoir about his deceased golden retriever, Trixie. Koontz adored Trixie, who died in 2007 at the age of 11. Nonfiction is a significant change of pace for the horror author.

The memoir is called A Big Little Life: A Memoir of a Joyful Dog. It will arrive in bookstores next summer.

Koontz told USA Today, "I wanted to write not just another dog story like Marley & Me - and, by the way, Trixie was not a Marley. She was one of the best behaved dogs anyone could hope to have. I wanted to write the truth about the mystery of this world and our place in it with other creatures."

Koontz also says the human-dog bond is "as close to a perfect relationship as you can have."

USA Today also says Koontz will write a second nonfiction title for Hyperion. The subject matter and release date for the book have not yet been revealed.

Update: We added the cover which features a photograph of the adorable Trixie.
