Dick Barnes, veteran newspaperman and editor of the Sunday real estate section for the Los Angeles Times since 1989, has been named as Editor of Inman News Features, a real estate news and information company. Barnes will oversee the production of all editorial content for the online and offline operations of Inman News, including its Internet news operation, which delivers real estate news and editorial content to websites and print media companies.
``Independence, credibility and commitment to excellence are the key values in journalism, online and offline,'' Barnes said. ``These values define Inman News and are the reason it has become both the leading online and offline source of real estate news for consumers and professionals. My goal is to build upon the success of Inman News to create a world-class content organization that owns the category for real estate news and information.''
Barnes has been an editor at The Times for 28 years, serving as the city editor of the Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego County editions of the newspaper. Barnes began his journalism career in the mid-1960s as a copy boy at The San Diego Union. He worked as a reporter and editor there before joining The Times in 1972. He has a bachelor's degree in journalism from San Diego State College, a master's in journalism from Columbia University and studied law at the University of Connecticut.
