Donald Rumsfeld's Memoir Will Be Called Known and Unknown

Posted on September 21, 2010

Donald Rumsfeld's memoir, Known and Unknown, will be published by Penguin's Sentinel imprint on January 25, 2011. Publishers Weekly reports that Sentinel publisher Adrian Zackheim says Rumsfeld's book is "filled with previously undisclosed details and insights about the Bush administration, 9/11, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq."

The AP reports that Rumsfeld's book will cover everything from his childhood to his political career, including his Secretary of Defense jobs under President Gerald Ford and President George W. Bush.

The title of the book comes from Rumsfeld's quote about knowns and unknowns during the Iraq War. Rumsfeld said, "There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know."

Proceeds from the book will go to the Rumsfeld Foundation, which supports several veterans charities.
