Dr. Oz and Hearst Planning Self-Help Magazine

Posted on July 2, 2013

Dr. Mehmet Oz and Hearst plan to launch a self-help magazine. Alison Brower has been appointed editor-in-chief of the upcoming magazine. Initial newsstand distribution for the first pilot issue will be 350,000 copies, with an additional 450,000 copies sent to targeted subscribers of select Hearst titles.

The debut pilot issue will hit newsstands nationwide in the first quarter of 2014, followed by a second issue. Hearts says this could lead to a regular frequency magazine in the second half of 2014. Hearst says the magazine will have an upbeat, optimistic attitude and will cover topics like physical and emotional well-being, food, beauty, real-women's stories, news, travel and finance.

Dr. Oz said in a statement, "This is about a lifestyle. Feeling great is the key to living well and this content will provide women with everything they need to feel inspired and live a long, ealthy, joyful life."

The new magazine has a couple statistics in its favor. Forbes reports that putting Dr. Oz on magazine covers leads to a newsstand boost. Forbes also says viewers of The Dr. Oz Show also tend to buy more women's magazines than non-viewers.
