For the first time ever the Cat in the Hat is coming to a Kindle near you. Beginning this month 41 Dr. Seuss books will be released as ebooks. The first book will be released September 24th. Random House made the announcement.

Barbara Marcus, President & Publisher, Random House Children's Books and Susan Brandt, President, Licensing & Marketing, Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P. made the announcement today.

Dr. Theodore Geisel, better known by his nom de plume Dr. Seuss, never sold the ebook rights to his books and his estate stands to make a fortune from the release of the popular stories. There are more then 600 million print book copies worldwide.

Popular Seuss books that will make their appearance as ebooks include: The Cat in the Hat; Green Eggs and Ham; Oh, the Places You'll Go!; Horton Hears a Who!; One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish; Dr. Seuss's ABC; Fox in Socks; Hop on Pop; Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?; Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!; The Cat in the Hat Comes Back; The Foot Book; There's a Wocket in My Pocket!; The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins; and The Lorax.

In a release, Random House assured readers that the books "will preserve Dr. Seuss's original layouts and the beloved illustrations from their print editions" which is a very smart move by the publisher. There will also be Read & Listen editions with new audio recordings of the books.

Barbara Marcus said in a statement, "Random House Children's Books and Dr. Seuss Enterprises have been publishing partners for decades. I am so pleased to announce the start of an exciting new chapter in our long and thriving relationship, as we embark on expanding the Dr. Seuss reading experience together with ebooks. We are delighted that today's parents, their children, and educators can now add Dr. Seuss's classics to their digital bookshelves, joining the cherished hardcovers that we have all grown up with."
