Edmunds.com Launches Inside Line Magazine

Edmunds.com, an online resource for automotive information, has launched an online car magazine called Inside Line. The new magazine will make use of video, photography, rich media and the online community. Available free online at insideline.com, the new publication is aimed at automotive enthusiasts, a population that is growing thanks in part to successful television shows like MTV's Pimp My Ride and The Learning Channel's Overhaulin'.
"The Edmunds.com website serves automotive consumers who seek straightforward auto information: prices, ownership cost projections and practical tips on buying, selling and owning a vehicle," said Matthew Kumin, General Manager of Edmunds.com Media. "Inside Line is pleasure reading aimed at those who are emotionally involved with cars -- an audience that is growing in size and in importance to automakers."
Inside Line will provide road tests, columns, a daily feed of news from around the automotive world, and features on styling and design, technology, personalities, motorsports and auto shows. Editorial Director Kevin Smith leads the editorial team for Inside Line. Smith left automotive publisher Primedia in September.
"Our Inside Line editorial meetings go in entirely different directions than they do at a traditional magazine," remarked Smith. "And, amazingly, nearly everything we dream up is possible -- online."
Richard Homan is the Executive Editor, a position he held at Road & Track for nearly five years in the '90s. As Senior Editor of Inside Line, Scott Oldham lends automotive credibility both as a respected car magazine writer and a die-hard enthusiast.
Significant contributions are also being made by the editorial staff of Edmunds.com, including Editor In Chief Karl Brauer, who serves on the North American Car and Truck of the Year jury, and Senior Road Test Editor Ed Hellwig. Columnists include Ken Gross, Michelle Krebs and Steven Cole Smith. Detroit-based Global Auto Systems, a consulting, research and information service provider headed by industry veterans Paul Lienert and Jim Park, will provide its daily news and auto information to Inside Line.
Edmunds.com's automotive data, tools and services is licensed to third parties. The company supplies content for the auto sections of NYTimes.com, AOL, About.com, iVillage,com and IGN.com, provides weekly data to Automotive News and delivers monthly data reports to Wall Street analysts. The company is headquartered in Santa Monica, Calif. and maintains a satellite office outside Detroit.
