Posted on March 19, 2014
ABC News anchor Elizabeth Vargas has announced plans to publish her memoir with Grand Central Publishing. The memoir news follows Elizabeth's recent announcement that she is a recovering alcoholic. Her memoir will provide details of her alcoholism and her recovery process. A tentative date for the as-yet untitled memoir has been set for Spring 2016.
Hachette Book Group says Vargas hopes to provide solace and guidance to others who are battling addiction in her memoir. She will provide a no-holds-barred account of growing up with crippling anxiety and turning to alcohol for relief. She will also reveal how she found herself living a double life and tell personal stories of her despair. She will also discuss her time in rehab and her recovery.
Elizabeth says in a statement, "When I first began to worry about my own drinking, I turned to books other women had written about their own alcoholism. I learned I was not alone, and it helped me find the courage to reach out and get help. I have spent my entire life telling other peoples' stories. This one is my own, and is incredibly personal: the burden and the loneliness of the secret drinker. If just one other person can relate to it, it will make my own story worth writing, and I will have paid the gift forward."
